Qualification launch - Level 2 Technical Award in Health and Social Care

We are delighted to announce the launch of the new NCFE CACHE Level 2 Technical Award in Health and Social Care (603/1909/4). This new qualification will replace the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Award in Health and Social Care (601/9038/3).

This qualification has been developed to meet the needs of our Centres and in response to feedback from the Department of Education (DfE).

The current NCFE CACHE Level 2 Award in Health and Social Care (601/9038/3) will be withdrawn and the last date for registrations on this qualification will be 31st August 2017. Learners registered on this qualification will have until 31st August 2019 to complete.

The new NCFE CACHE Level 2 Technical Award in Health and Social Care (603/1909/4) will be available for registrations from 1st September 2017.  We will keep you updated with information around the status of DfE performance points for this new qualification as we move forward.

Purpose:

This qualification will enable learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social care sector.  It will be delivered as part of the curriculum for learners studying at Key Stage 4 and has been designed to meet the characteristics for inclusion in the Department for Education’s 14–16 Performance Tables for technical awards.

Units:

3 units covering:

  • AHSC 1:  Introduction to working in health and social care
  • AHSC 2:  Human growth and development through the life stages
  • AHSC 3:  Undertaking a health and social care project
  • TAHSC 1 : Introduction to the health and social care sector
  • TAHSC 2:  Professional practice and the health and social care practitioner
  • TAHSC 3 : Human growth and development through the life stages

Internal assessment:

AHSC 2: Externally set, internally assessed and graded refer, pass, merit, distinction.

AHSC 3 : Externally set, internally assessed synoptic project graded refer, pass, merit, distinction

For units TAHSC 1, 2 and 3, learners will need to achieve a minimum of a pass grade in the:

  • externally set, internally marked, mandatory assessments for each unit which will be subject to internal and external quality assurance

External assessment:

AHSC 1: Externally set and externally assessed multiple choice question test graded refer, pass, merit, distinction.

For units TAHSC 1, 2 and 3, learners will need to achieve a minimum of a pass grade in the:

  • externally set, externally marked synoptic assessment (Short Answer Examination).
