Department for Education calls for T Level panel members

Date: 01 August 2017

The Department for Education (DfE) are calling on experienced professionals in the Childcare and Education sector to join their T Level Panels, formerly known as ‘panels of professionals’. The T Level Panels will be an integral part of the development and implementation of the reforms to technical education and industry standards.

The recruitment drive is to ensure the success of the agreed reforms in the Post 16 Skills Plan, which accepted all the recommendations made by the Independent Panel on Technical Education, as led by Lord Sainsbury.

The reforms will be upheld by a new national system of technical education, with 15 clear routes in to skilled employment. The intention that the reform prompt a skills revolution across the country has been reiterated by Secretary of State for Education, Justine Greening. Similarly, Anne Milton, Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills has written to providers and others across the education system, setting out proposals for first teaching of T levels in September 2020, with all routes available by September 2022.

To ensure this timeline, the DfE are looking for experienced practitioners, trainers of practitioners and professional bodies who can demonstrate their ability to represent and consult across industry and have experience of working on the development of industry standards.

The T Level Panels will be responsible for co-designing the standards, developing the content, and approving final T Level programmes for delivery to young people and advising on broader programme requirements. The DfE’s advertisement states that: “The ambition is to develop technical education that genuinely prepares individuals for skilled employment with employers sitting at the heart of the system.”

The DfE hope by engaging employers at each stage of the reforms, this will shape and improve the technical education landscape across England and ensure a skilled workforce for the future.
