Changes to the number of hours required for Controlled Assessments for Technical Awards
Date: 16 August 2017
We have been listening to your feedback regarding the length of the controlled assessments for the CACHE Technical Awards - EYECCE1, EYEDCE2, DEYC1, DYEC2, HSC1 and HSED2.
We understand that it has been challenging to fit these assessments into your timetable due to the number of required hours. The submissions we have marked so far have demonstrated that the majority of learners are completing the controlled assessment in 20 hours or less and in order to reduce the burden we will be decreasing the number of required hours from 35 to 20 from 1st September 2017. This change will apply to all existing and future registrations on the qualifications.
How will this affect me?
When your learners sit the assessments they will now only be required to complete up to a maximum of 20 hours of controlled assessment. The assessment conditions will remain the same as detailed in the Regulations for the Conduct of External Assessment – Technical Level Qualifications. The assessment windows timescales will be reviewed in line with this change and will be available on the CACHE website from 1st September 2017.
What if my learner requires more hours?
The submissions we have marked so far have demonstrated that learners are completing the controlled assessment in 20 hours or less. However, we will support you to meet your learners’ differing needs and if you have a learner who requires additional time you can request this through the Reasonable Adjustments process.
