Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship Children and Young Peoples Workforce

We have received confirmation that the Children and Young Peoples Workforce Apprenticeship Framework will, from 1st September 2019, include both the children and young people’s pathway and the early years pathway - Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce (QRN: 601/3395/8) and Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (QRN: 603/3723/0).

Please note that the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner pathway contains the qualification for those apprentices wishing to work in early years settings and this qualification must be the one of choice as from 1st September 2019. The Level 2 Children and Young People’s Workforce qualification will be an appropriate alternative for apprentices looking to develop skills outside of the early years workforce.

Just to reiterate whether an apprentice or other learner the qualification which will allow learners, once achieved, to count in the child/adult ratios in an early years setting from 1st September 2019 is the Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner  (QRN: 603/3723/0). A list of full and relevant Level 2 qualifications can be found on the Department for Education website. The new requirement is not applied retrospectively and therefore any learner registered before 1st September 2019 on another Level 2 will not be affected.

Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QRN: 601/2629/2)

In response to centre feedback we have made some amendments to the longitudinal study in the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QRN: 601/2629/2) these relate to Unit 3.15 involving the mark scheme for the longitudinal study. You will see that we have removed the need for critical evaluation in the majority of instances. We have also created a supporting document introducing all learners, classroom based and apprentices alike to the behaviours included as part of the Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard.

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Framework for Children and Young People

The Apprenticeship Framework and Apprenticeship Standard are currently running alongside each other. The Framework does not include Paediatric First Aid which is now a requirement of the Standard (required within role in EYFS) and it also includes ERR which is not a requirement of the new Standard. Therefore, the Apprenticeship Standard contains everything that is needed by a learner upon completion and taking a role in an early years setting. The supporting document mentioned above is a useful tool when using the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (EYE) as part of the apprenticeship Standard as it maps out the behaviours and ensures full coverage where required.

Our Apprenticeship Standard bundles will be available shortly:

  • Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard Bundle – Mandatory Qualifications Only – APP5687
  • Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard Bundle – Mandatory Qualifications & Functional Skills - APP9362

We are proud to be able offer you and end to end service, learner journey, for your Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprentices including End Point Assessment:

Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce – Standard Alignment document for behaviours – Paediatric First Aid – Functional skills (if required) – Gateway – End Point Assessment to include - Knowledge Test & Professional Discussion underpinned by a showcase Portfolio.

We hope that you will find this information and these documents useful. If you have any questions please contact us.
