Kingsley Special Academy achieves aims through Endorsed Learning Programme

Kingsley Special Academy is an ‘outstanding’ primary school based in Northamptonshire. The school caters for learners with a range of needs including profound, severe and moderate learning difficulties, ASD, sensory impairments, and physical difficulties.a

The school’s CACHE Endorsed Learning Programme (ELP) is helping achieve their aim of ensuring that all learning support assistants demonstrate high expectations, and engage and motivate learners so that they learn and make outstanding progress.

CACHE ELPs are the benchmark for high quality, bespoke training in care, health and education. They provide recognition of quality programmes and offer complete flexibility in design and delivery.

Tom O’Dwyer, Head Teacher at Kingsley Special Academy, commented. “We were keen to provide individuals with opportunities to work alongside our staff, immersing themselves in outstanding practice, learning about the children and curriculum, and gaining valuable workplace skills. We recognised that this on its own was not enough and wanted to give to give these individuals a solid academic understanding so they became reflective practitioners.

“We developed the Kingsley Micro University course to achieve this. We were very keen that this course was of the highest quality which is why we explored CACHE ELP as an option.”

Tom added: “CACHE were extremely supportive, not only in ensuring the practicalities of providing the course were in place, but most importantly, ensuring the quality of what we were delivering. Having CACHE endorsement means that, along with continuing support from CACHE, our learners complete the course with an achievement that has real value. All learners who have undertaken the ELP have gone on to secure jobs.”

Jade Auburn, Learner at Kingsley Micro University commented: “This course has helped me so much, from building skills I never thought I’d have, to becoming the person I am now. Learning in the workplace has amazing benefits, such as being able to experience real life situations, and gaining the knowledge needed to complete the job to best of my ability.”

Janet Scott, Childcare Subject Specialist at CACHE, commented: “I’ve personally supported Kingsley Special Academy to develop the ELP in order to gain approval and we are delighted to work collaboratively to achieve learner outcomes.”

Mr O’Dwyer added: “CACHE has continued to offer us high quality support and encouragement as we move to the next stage of our vision, which is to support more youngsters achieve success through our ELP. We cannot recommend CACHE highly enough to other organisations who are developing specialised programmes.”

ELPs add value to programmes and provide the chance to showcase the calibre of staff development within an organisation, whilst offering complete flexibility in design and delivery – including the assessment methods. All participants who successfully achieve the programme receive a certificate from CACHE, recognising and celebrating their learning, achievement and CPD.
