CACHE Employer of the Year 2017 - Greenside School

We are delighted to announce that Greenside School, a special educational needs school in Hertfordshire, won the CACHE Employer of the Year award 2017.

Tina Malpeli, Childcare Assessor and Trainer at Hart Learning & Development (Hart L&D) nominated Greenside School for the award because of the school’s commitment to the Apprenticeship programme and the support it gives to each individual apprentice to successfully complete their Apprenticeships in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools.

Greenside School is for pupils aged 2-19 years with a range of complex, severe and profound learning difficulties, often experiencing significant barriers to learning. Greenside School aims to ensure that all teaching assistants demonstrate high expectations, engage and motivate pupils so that they learn and make outstanding progress. The CACHE Apprenticeship programme that the school delivers helps it to achieve this aim.

Lorraine Lawrence, Apprenticeship Co-ordinator at Greenside School commented: “Apprenticeships have worked well for us as it’s good to take on younger people and train them in all aspects of the job; we hope to employ one or two apprentices each year.”

Hart L&D started working in partnership with Greenside School in November 2013, and since then the school has trained eight apprentices, with three progressing to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools.

Throughout the Apprenticeship programme, Greenside School ensures each apprentice has the opportunity to work alongside experienced staff, and they work in partnership with Hart L&D to ensure off-the-job training needs are met.

Tina Malpeli added: “Lorraine regularly meets with both Hart L&D and the apprentices to ensure that the apprentices have the opportunity to discuss any concerns and training requirements. What stands out about Greenside School is the support and commitment to the apprentices, which continues after completion of their Apprenticeships, with all apprentices still in employment at the school.”

Julie Hyde, Associate Director at CACHE commented: “It is great to see Greenside School working in partnership with Hart L&D - it's commitment to the Apprenticeship programme is outstanding. Although we received a large number of worthy nominations for the Apprenticeship Awards 2017, Greenside School’s exceptional support to the apprentices both during and after completing their Apprenticeships made it a clear winner.
