Blackpool and The Fylde College celebrates success of learners studying CACHE Health and Social Care qualifications
Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) is one of the UK’s leading Further Education (FE) colleges. Its academic standards are judged to be amongst the best in the sector and the College recently achieved the highest success rates of any large general FE college for the second year running.
B&FC delivers a diverse portfolio of Health and Social Care qualifications from CACHE, including Awards in Developing Substance Misuse Awareness, Awareness of End of Life Care, Prevention and Control of Infection, and the suite of Level 2 – 5 qualified practitioner routes in the Health and Social Care sector.
Margaret Bamforth, Head of Curriculum, Society, Health and Childhood Studies at B&FC said: “We chose to deliver CACHE qualifications as they are an established sector specialist with excellent customer service. The variety of courses on offer meets our local demand in services and we are able to respond quickly to this. Employability and career progression is vitally important to us and by using the suite of programmes on offer we can respond to employer needs effectively.”
The College has found the benefits of CACHE qualifications start with the foundation information which is built on through the levels in a logical and sequential order which supports the learners’ knowledge and understanding for career progression. An example of this is a student who started their journey studying a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, despite their significant personal challenges they have now successfully progressed through the levels and are about to complete a BA (Hons) degree.
Another student at B&FC said: “I will feel simultaneously sad but fulfilled once the course finishes. I can honestly say it was a fantastic experience and has made me a better practitioner and a more reflective person.
“The fantastic teaching has helped me so much, mainly in my role but also personally, and I have definitely developed additional skills and confidence; even undertaking another course to add to my CV. I can honestly say that the hard work was worth it and admit I feel privileged to have been on this course.”
Margaret added: “CACHE offers a unique service to centres in terms of customer service, quality assurance, advice guidance and support as required. The dynamic suite of qualifications enables us to be employer responsive and student focussed, promoting best practice in the sector and transforming the lives of service users.
“I would absolutely recommend CACHE to other centres as they are current within the sector and provide a portfolio of continuing professional development training for those working within Health and Social Care and related services. The specifications are clear, concise and with enough detail to understand and interpret the requirements of the qualification. The units make the planning of the delivery easy to manage with a natural progression between elements.”
Gail Carswell, External Quality Assurer at CACHE said: “B&FC is an exceptional college with a fantastic reputation. The college continuously delivers qualifications to a very high standard and we are delighted to hear about the success their learners have achieved. We look forward to continuing to work with B&FC.”
