Key Skills
What are Key Skills?
Key Skills are a range of essential skills that underpin success in education, employment, lifelong learning and personal development.
CACHE has been accredited by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA) to offer the six Key Skills at Levels 1 to 4. The first three Key Skills are assessed by portfolio and test.
The first three Key Skills are:
- Application of Number
- Communication
- Information and Communication Technology
The ‘Wider Key Skills’ are:
- Improving own learning and performance
- Problem solving
- Working with others
These three ‘Wider Key Skills’ are assessed by portfolio and assessor confirmation of the candidate’s knowledge and understanding, known as ‘Part A’ questions.
Candidates can achieve any of these Key Skills at the level most appropriate to their needs. Centres should not assume that all candidates in a cohort will be working towards the same Key Skills at the same level.
Key Skills can be used to form a part of the Modern Apprenticeship.
Why CACHE?
CACHE has been accredited to run the six Key Skills. You may find it helpful to undertake the Key Skills with CACHE, alongside any childcare qualifications you are registered for with CACHE.
