Who is the qualification aimed at?

People who work in settings or services whose main purpose is children's care, learning and development.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements but learners must be 16 years of age with either a Level 2 early years qualification or have significant experience in a childcare setting.

What does the qualification cover?

Practical, work-related tasks based on the National Occupational Standards for Children's Care, Learning and Development at Level 3, which are designed to demonstrate competence at work.

What age range is covered?

Birth to 16 years of age.

How is it assessed?

Direct observation within the workplace combined with a portfolio of additional evidence such as professional discussions and witness testimonies.

Are practical placements required?

Learners must already be employed or in a practical placement for the whole period of the qualification.

How long does the qualification take to complete?

There is no set numbers of hours as it depends on the learner's ability to gather and log the required evidence.
