CACHE Level 1 Award accepted onto ‘additional and specialist learning’ catalogue for 14-19 year olds
10th March
The CACHE Level 1 Award in Getting Started in a Pre-school setting has recently become accessible to a wider audience, after becoming accepted onto the 14-19 Diploma Additional and Specialist Learning Catalogue. This acceptance creates an extra stream of funding for the qualification, and means that schools may now have greater opportunity to deliver it to learners aged 14 plus.
Additional and specialist learning (ASL) supports the personal development of a student by enhancing their progression opportunities as well as maintaining high levels of motivation and enjoyment throughout their Diploma programme. The CACHE Level 1 Award in Getting Started in a Pre-school setting covers the basic knowledge needed to begin working in a pre-school and is considered a great ‘taster’ qualification which will encourage progression onto Level 2.
Importantly, this qualification has been accepted as additional and specialist learning under two lines of learning; Society Health and Development, and Public services. This allows learners on these different Diploma courses to add breadth to their knowledge via the CACHE L1 Award, with funding available until the end of December 2010.
Clarification: Research task for the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education
Research Task – ‘It is important to plan to meet the care and learning needs of all children’.
Optional Unit 10 – Research into child care, education and development.
These are two components of the DCCE L3 which appear to be similar and this may be confusing for centres. The Research Task is the mandatory assessment which all candidates must achieve to gain the Diploma. Optional Unit 10 is one of the 11 optional units which can be selected to study at Diploma level. It may be that learners who are undertaking Optional Unit 10 will find information that is relevant to use within the Research Task, but the Research Task and the assignment for Optional Unit 10 are completely separate assessments.
Following a number of recent enquiries, we have noted that some Centres may be confusing the word limit for optional unit 10 (3,500 words) with the word limit for the Research Task (5,000 words). Centres need to be sure that they are introducing learners to the correct component. If learners submit the incorrect component for external assessment they will still have to complete the mandatory Research Task which would involve them in a considerable amount of additional work and may delay their completion – we do not want this to happen!
Please read the Research Task; Guidance for tutors and learners and the Chief Examiner’s Report on the Research Task which are on the website; these will be helpful in understanding the Research Task. If you have any questions please call our Customer Support Team on 0845 347 2123
