Working with children in Childcare Centres



Nursery Assistants




Nursery assistants are involved with caring for babies, toddlers, pre-school children in a nursery or daycare setting. This is a supervised role and practitioners will be expected to take responsibility for completing tasks and procedures subject to direction or guidance.

Recommended qualifications:


Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce (QCF) England
Level 2 Diploma for Children's Care, Learning and Development (Wales and Northern Ireland) (QCF)

CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Child Care and Education (NQF)




Nursery Nurses




Nursery nurses may work in childcare centres unsupervised, or within a nursery or daycare setting. This is a supervisory role and practitioners will be expected to take responsibility and to plan for the development of the children in their care.

Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (QCF) England
Level 3 Extended Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (QCF)
Level 2 Diploma for Children's Care, Learning and Development (Wales and Northern Ireland) (QCF)

CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education (NQF)




Nursery Officers




Nursery Officers are trained to manage a team of staff and can be responsible for operational management. There is an expectation that practitioners will be experienced and will have undertaken further training and development after their initial qualification.

CACHE Professional Development Qualifications
CACHE NVQ Level 4 in Children's Care, Learning and Development
