Who is the qualification aimed at?
People working with school aged children in a variety of settings including playscheme workers, sports centre staff, out of school workers and lunchtime supervisors.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry qualifications but learners must be 16 years of age.
What does the qualification cover?
An understanding of the primary aspects of keeping children and young people safe and the playworkers role with this.
What age range is covered?
4 to 16 years.
How is it Assessed?
- For the Award, assessment is by a case study and reflective diary.
- For the Certificate, assessment as the Award plus a multiple choice question.
- For the Diploma, assessment is by the same methods listed for the Certificate plus an assignment and reflective task.
Are practical placements required?
It is expected that learners will be in employment or volunteering in a playwork setting.
How long does the qualification take to complete?
- The Level 2 Award is 30 guided learning hours plus 20 recommended hours in a playwork setting.
- The Level 2 Certificate is 80 guided learning hours plus 55 recommended hours in a playwork setting.
- The Level 2 Diploma is 130 guided learning hours plus 80 recommended hours in a playwork setting.
