Avoiding Plagiarism

20th June 2011

Plagiarism relates to Learners claiming work to be their own when it is not. All work submitted must be the Learner’s own and not copied from anyone or anywhere else unless the source of the information has been clearly referenced. Centres should explain to their Learners how to provide a reference list showing the source of any information used in their work.

If evidence is discovered that a Learner has copied work from elsewhere, the work should not be accepted and the Learner should be subject to the Centre’s disciplinary procedure as appropriate. CACHE must be notified of any cases of plagiarism and if the Learner is continuing with the qualification, they will need to submit replacement evidence.

Learners are not allowed to offer their work for sale or purchase the work of other Learners. This includes the use of sites such as eBay. If this happens, CACHE reserves the right not to accept future entries from a Learner.

Additional guidance on plagiarism is available on the website of the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulators (Ofqual) using the links below:

Advice Regarding Funding

CACHE would advise Centres to refer to the External Assessment Timetable when planning, to allow time for any potential referrals and re-submissions. If your centre has Learner referrals and you have already set your completion dates with the Funding Body for funding purposes which you may now miss, please do extend the end dates of your programs. This should be done at the time of re-submission or re-entry for exams to ensure your dates correspond with the appropriate Funding Body.

CACHE UCAS Information

The CACHE Level 3 Award / Certificate / Diploma in Child Care and Education has an established reputation as a suitable entry route into a number of degree courses, and each year a number of CACHE learners will progress onto university after successfully completing the qualification.

When deciding on course entry requirements and making conditional offers to learners, universities may use the UCAS tariff. This tariff is calculated by an expert group who will consider the level of study and size of a qualification, as well as studying evidence of learners work.

The UCAS points are allocated as follows:

  • CACHE Level 3 Award in Child Care and Education – 10-30 points
  • CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Child Care and Education – 35-110 points
  • CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education – 120-360 points
  • CACHE Level 3 Extended Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (QCF) – 80-420 points

Learners may complete the Award or Certificate alongside other qualifications such as A Levels, and can assemble their points accordingly before applying to university.

UCAS points will be allocated on a single grade basis

The CACHE Level 3 Award / Certificate / Diploma is based on a single grade. To support Centres when calculating UCAS points based on a single grade, CACHE have created a UCAS calculator and grading matrix which are available below:UCAS CalculatorGrading Matrix

CACHE learner certificates will show a single grade on the front, and the reverse will list all the units achieved and grades. The grade achieved for the practical unit (unit 9) will be highlighted and learners are advised to draw this to the attention of potential employers if necessary.

The full Level 3 Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels

UCAS have confirmed the Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This equivalency reflects the depth of study and breadth of curriculum covered by the Diploma, and is positive news for CACHE learners who are studying this qualification.

To reflect the fact that the Level 3 Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels, learners should enter their predicted grade three times on the university application forms.

If you have any questions regarding the UCAS tariff and the single graded basis of calculation, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Support Team on 0845 347 2123
