Canterbury College reap the benefits of CACHE bespoke training

In September 2005 Sandra Langley, Section Manager for Early Years and Playwork at Canterbury College, realised that extra training would help inform and consolidate her new team

“With the arrival of lots of new staff at the beginning of a new term, it was clear to me that some CACHE specific training would be useful to get the team up to speed.” Says Sandra.

“The whole team wasn’t new, but I thought that everyone should be invited. This would ensure consistency and would act as a refresher and update about any key changes or issues for more established members of the team. CACHE was offering an extensive training package nationwide, but I hoped that they could organise something tailored specifically to our requirements.

Arranging the day was simple. I was able to work with the trainer beforehand to come up with a personalised agenda. I felt confident that we would get everything we needed from the session.

On the day, the relaxed, informal atmosphere and level of interaction with the trainer meant that staff were able to ask lots of questions. As a section manager it also gave me the opportunity to identify areas for development within the team. The fact that the session took place in-house also meant that we saved the time and cost of travelling, maximising the time we actually spent training!

I would definitely consider running another bespoke training day in the future and the next time we will invite tutors from our satellite Centre, Sheppey College, who were very impressed by the positive feedback we gave our training last year.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend CACHE bespoke training to other Centres. Being able to offer tailored and targeted training to your staff in a relaxed, informal and familiar setting is an invaluable resource that’s worth taking advantage of!”
