Changes to Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (EYE)

Date: 18 May, 2017

In response to Centre feedback, revisions have been made to the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QRN: 601/2629/2) and in particular how evidence is gathered to show competence across the age range 0-5 years.

Learners will need to meet all of the assessment criteria for knowledge, skills and competence included in the qualification using assessment methods selected at assessor discretion.

To aid assessors with discretionary decisions concerning individual experience in real work environments across the age range from 0-5 years: direct observations must continue to be used to assess competence with the age range the learner is working with but can be complemented with expert witness testimonies, reflective accounts including prior knowledge and professional discussions to assess knowledge, skills and competence outside of this age range.

Other changes to note include:

Unit 3.15: this is now assessed through the completion of one (1) Longitudinal Study

Theme 4 (Unit 4.1) is now part of Theme 2, therefore reducing the Themes to three (3) in total

We are currently awaiting confirmation of the Early Years Apprenticeship Standard and Centres will be notified of additional requirements and how to access supporting resources to reflect this.

Centres are to note that these changes will come into effect for newly registered learners from 19th June 2017 when the latest qualification specification (version 10.0) will be available. Only learners registered on programme from 19th June 2017 will need to meet the new assessment requirements to achieve.

Please do not hesitate to contact your Regional Development Executive or External Quality Advisor for further details as appropriate or to discuss any questions involving current learners.
