CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education

Deirdre Claffey is not only described as an ‘outstanding student’ by her tutor, she has a healthy dose of ambition too, after completing the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education

Deirdre’s achievements have even attracted the attention of Nursery World Magazine, where she appeared as a case study in the Training Today supplement last year.

Deirdre's tutor Fionnuala Ryan was so proud of her, she contacted CACHE to tell us more.

19-year-old Deirdre completed her CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (DCE) at Moate Business College, Co. Westmeath, Ireland, passing with flying colours. Fionnuala Ryan said "Deirdre has excelled in all aspects of the course, from theory, to the practical elements. She has really shown true motivation and determination to achieve her goals."

Deirdre contributes her success to the vocational, applied learning approach to the DCE, and says, "I found the range of work placements to be an extremely important part of the course. I really enjoyed each placement as it allowed me to put the theory into practice and gain first hand experience."

Over the past two years, Deirdre has spent two days a week working with babies and children from 0-8 years of age in a wide range of settings, including crèches, primary schools and Montessori nurseries. During her most recent work placement at Busy Beavers playschool in Ballycumber, Co. Offaly, Deirdre became more involved in planning and delivery, which she says, "was a great experience as it helped me to develop my confidence." Deirdre was delighted to have recently been offered a full - time job as a Team Leader at Busy Beavers, and is relishing the extra responsibility she has been given. She is also considering embarking on a Montessori course and following that up with training in special needs as she says "I'm interested in developing specialisms and am quite keen to continue studying. My ambition is to one day build my own childcare business!"
